About the Satsang program

Satsang is a highlight of the week at the Shiva Ashram and is a festive and vibrant event. Satsang means ‘to keep the company of Truth’. Coming together to be in Swamiji’s company, we hear the teachings of the inner Self and the great beings.

Swami Shankarananda

Swamiji calls Satsang a ‘life-sustaining program’, so whether you’re a Learn to Meditate graduate, a long-time member of the Shiva Yoga community, or have never visited before, we invite you to attend this free program as a way of continuing and deepening your meditation and spiritual practice.

Enjoy Swamiji’s illuminating talks on the philosophy of meditation and yoga, as he draws on a variety of traditions and great beings, including:

  • Baba Muktananda
  • Bhagavan Nityananda
  • Ramana Maharshi
  • Nisargadatta Maharaj
  • Anandamayi Ma
  • Yoga Vashistha
  • Zen Buddhism.

Satsang includes darshan, a chance to meet Swamiji and Devi Ma and receive a blessing. There is also meditation and chanting, an uplifting yogic practice that stills the mind and opens the heart.

You can also join us before the official program for the Bhagavan Nityananda arati, a devotional practice involving chanting and the waving of lights.

Keep the company of holy people and enlightened beings. There are many ways to attain God but satsang is the most sublime. If you simply stay in the guru’s company with great care, the right time will eventually come and then you will attain perfection. — Baba Muktananda
