Winter Carnivale July 16, 2006
By Narada Jackson
What a day! It might have been in the middle of winter, but that didn’t stop the ashram’s ‘psychic and healing extravaganza’ from being a warm success.
Overnight, it was as if a village had assembled itself on the ashram grounds. Flags decorated the sky. Fires were lit. Ashramites ran around, making sure preparations were complete. A ring of colourful caravans welcomed the public, as they streamed in to sample the healing and all the attractions on offer.
And it was festive; the ashramites dressed up in their finest gypsy wear. There was music around the campfire, jewellery and bookstalls, cakes and teas and vegie burgers.
As well as the invaluable (and ever popular ) tarot readers, the day saw many healing modalities such as Indian Head Massage, Ear Candling, Aura Drawings, to name a few. Additionally we had I Ching Readings and a certain guest, ‘Mr Humble Know It All Genius’, who proved to be very popular when he promised he would answer any question that he was asked. And, how could one forget Kali’s psychic tea leaf readings. The queue for her was long but as one satisfied customer told the waiting line: ‘she’s worth waiting for’.
In addition to the Carnivale being a fundraiser for the new hall, it was also an Open Day for the ashram. In the meditation hall, we held yoga classes, learn to meditate classes, chanting workshops and the opportunity to do a puja.
Many thanks to the Hall Fundraising Committee for making the day possible, and many thanks to everyone who came along and helped – as well as being a day for psychics and healers, it was also a day for enjoyment.
