Shiva Yoga in Brisbane August 21-23, 2009
The recent Shiva Yoga visit to Brisbane by Swami’s Durgananda and Atmananda was a great success. They were warmly greeted with love and enthusiasm by the Brisbane Shiva Yogis and Rishi, the Brisbane Centre Leader and team (Russell, Jagadish, Jeanette, and Drew) worked hard to prepare for the visit. Alison also kindly allowed the use of her house for Privates sessions.

Programs were held at the Enoggera Memorial Hall about 15 minutes from the heart of the city. Forty people attended Satsang, enjoying the Puja, chanting, talk and meditation. Durgananda initiated a Ganesh and Shakti puja by asking the audience to “contemplate your deepest wish”. Atmananda described first meeting Swamiji and its transforming effect on his life. He also read from Swamiji’s books and spoke about Swamiji’s “uniquely practical yet mystical teaching”. Durgananda then led a guided mediation using Swamiji’s book, I can’t hear you I have a carrot in my ear.

The Sunday workshop was attended by twenty-five experienced or new meditators. The day was spent learning about Self-inquiry and mind culture, enjoying the bliss of deep meditation sessions and practicing mantra repetition. Afternoon tea was followed by a question and answer session. By the end of the day many people had already loaded Swamiji’s CD onto their iPods and many were signing up for Rishi’s ongoing Friday evening meditation group.
Swamis Atmananda and Durgananda were touched by the friendliness and sincerity of the Brisbane community. They came home feeling that Shiva Yoga is growing and expanding in Brisbane through the devotion of its people.
