Many Eastern cultures have a tradition of spiritual retreat, where people take time out from the activities of their normal lives and spend some time in a monastery or ashram. The word ashram is Sanskrit, meaning “without stress,” a place where you can take refuge in the inner Self.
The Shiva Ashram is the home of Swami Shankarananda and is dedicated to inner growth. Taking a retreat gives people the opportunity to deepen their spiritual practice and the understanding of their lives. It is often a time of rich inner transformation and breakthroughs.
Participants of the retreat share in the experience of ashram life and join in the daily activities. The full daily schedule includes meditation, chanting, hatha yoga, seva (service), talks, workshops, and the opportunity to spend time in Swamiji’s company as well as the company of others who value spirituality. During free time, people enjoy the beaches of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, and our own Pop’s Café, usually with afternoon live music.
