On Monday 14 June 2010, Swamiji was ‘in conversation’ with Rabbi Fred Morgan at the Limmud Oz Festival of Jewish Learning and Culture at Monash University. The session was titled ‘The Swami and the Rabbi’ and was a reprisal of a very popular event they first held as part of the Parliament of World’s Religions in December 2009.
Both Swamiji and Rabbi Fred come from similar backgrounds. They were both born in New York to Jewish parents, raised in a Jewish environment, attended Columbia University in the 1960s and developed interests in the religions of India. Yet they ended up as leaders in two very different faith communities. Rabbi Fred began by saying “Today is all about the awakening of kundalini”, to which Swamiji quipped, “That’s my line!” Both speakers engaged with why they made the spiritual choices that they did and their open and honest dialogue was both moving and wholly engaging.
