Learn to Meditate Level I

Four-Week Course


Learn to Meditate I

In Learn to Meditate Level I, you will learn essential techniques of meditation, the Shiva Yoga mantras and the basics of Self-inquiry. In a lecture format you’ll hear about the relationship between the mind and the emotions, the inner and outer world, developing intuition and increasing awareness. You’ll also participate in many actual sessions of guided meditation designed to tap into your inner energy. There is time for discussion and questions.

The course will help you:

  • Improve focus and concentration
  • Quiet the mind
  • Become familiar with the energy centres in the body
  • Identify feelings and what is behind them
  • Relax
  • Find the truth within

The course includes a copy of Swamiji’s book, Happy for No Good Reason, complete with a CD of guided meditations and meditation music. Swamiji leads you through four energy centres within the body to help you get in touch with your inner wisdom, release blocked energy and let go of tension and stress. Use the CD to begin your practice and become established in the experience of meditation and the Inner Self. All the tools you need to begin and develop your practise of meditation.

Swami Shankarananda created Learn to Meditate specifically to apply the wisdom of the ancient masters to the complexities of everyday life. For more than 30 years he has taught meditation and self-inquiry to a wide range of companies, organizations and individuals, including the National Gallery of Victoria, the Victoria Police and the Fire Brigade, as well as the Harvard Medical School, among others.

Devi Angell is an experienced meditation teacher and co-director of the Shiva School of Meditation. She has studied and worked with Swami Shankarananda since 1975 and helped him develop the Shiva Process meditation technique.

The four-week Learn to Meditate course is offered in Mt. Eliza and the city.

For graduates of Learn to Meditate Level I

If you have participated in Swamiji’s Learn to Meditate course and are wondering what you can do next, join us in the Level II course. It was specifically designed to help students to take the next step, while refreshing the practice of techniques in the introductory course.

Investigation of the Self through meditation is a process of endless unfoldment. On the highest level, the whole of life can be seen as a form of meditation. The challenge is to become more and more aware of the inner world in every situation, and the great sages tell us that this is possible.

Swamiji developed the unique Shiva Process technique to help his students integrate the benefits of meditation into their daily lives. Self-inquiry has the capacity to transform every aspect of life: health, career, relationship and spirituality. Swamiji says that it is the secret technique of the yogi who lives in the world, giving him an enormous edge.

The course includes:

  • Introduction to the Shiva Process technique, including how to make A and B statements
  • Mind culture
  • Communicating with truth and compassion
  • How to find the “upward shift”
  • Working with other people’s feelings

Ongoing Meditation Study Groups

 

Consciousness is the great unexplored area of life, the final frontier. It is the invisible but essential ingredient that even science approaches with fear and trembling. Through meditation we explore that Consciousness and discover the divine within.

This course is for people who wish to combine more extensive meditative practice with study and discussion of Swamiji’s books Happy for No Good Reason and Consciousness Is Everything. Swamiji has chosen a group of Shiva Yoga teachers, including Ma Devi, Dylan Frusher, Nancy Jackson and others to teach the course in Mt Eliza and, Mary-Anne MacCallum will be teaching the Caulfield course.
