Intensive 26 August 2007

In our spiritual practise, there is no better place to be than at the feet of the Great Beings. And on Sunday August 26 there was no better place to be than at the Intensive in the new Kailas Nivas meditation hall.

First Devi Ma, and then Swamiji, gave us an experience of the bliss of the Great Beings.

In her introductory talk Devi Ma said, ‘Great Beings have the power to kindle that greatness that is a potential within us.’ Speaking of her own relationship with great beings, she said, ‘everything that I had with Baba (Muktananda) I have with Swamiji…even though the Guru is a person, the Guru is an energy. The Guru doesn’t give us anything we don’t already possess.’

Swamiji then spoke about the impact that Great Beings have had on his life – most particularly Baba Muktananda, his own Guru.

‘One of the best things that Baba taught me was the value of doing seva (service). It gave me great bliss to serve Baba, the carrier of the Shakti.’ Swamiji said that at Intensives he most closely feels Baba’s presence: ‘Baba gave to everyone, and Intensives are the vehicle of Baba.’

During the Retreat, Swamiji had given a ‘short course’ on the philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism. In his talk he summarised Kashmir Shaivism in this way:

Be aware of Consciousness

Our whole awareness is based on words

Contemplate the highest principle

The inclusive, resonant philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism was especially close to Baba’s heart. In our meditations we used these contemplations to take us to the Self. Later, when our eyes were opened, this phrase of Swamiji’s remained: ‘Once you have touched the Self, you see the bliss of the world in everything. This is the experience of the Great Beings.’
