Swami Abhishiktananda - Centenary of Birth
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Swami Abhishiktananda, a French Benedictine monk (formerly, Henri le Saux) whose religious experiences in India led him to become a bridge between Hindu and Christian spirituality. Swamiji participated in several celebrations surrounding this event. The first was a Shiva Symposium held at the Ashram with Reverend Hans Christiansen on the 20th August 2010 in which they explored the life of Swami Abhishiktananda and his relevance to interfaith dialogue. The second event saw Swamiji participate in a weekend symposium hosted by the Janssen Spirituality Centre in Boronia which also used the occasion to launch the Abhishiktananda network (Australia) on Facebook.
Swamiji spoke beautifully about Abhishiktananda’s experience of the Guru/disciple experience. He discussed how Abhishiktananda first experienced awakening with the great sage Ramana Maharshi and later spent time in a close Guru/disciple relationship with Swami Gnanananda which helped transform his inner life. Swamiji said that Christians already know what the Guru/disciple relationship is like because Jesus was a great Guru.
